Lakewood Gulch Trail

Lakewood Gulch Trail
City: Denver
Year: 2006
Project Description:

Kiowa Engineering prepared designs for Lakewood Gulch improvements between 10th Avenue and Tennyson Street in southwest Denver.  While designing new 50-foot span bridges at 10th Avenue, Perry Street and Tennyson Streets, cost-effective trail underpasses were incorporated into the flood control project.  The project involved installation of channel bank protection, utility relocation, trail construction, landscaping, riparian restoration, permitting, and construction management services.  Kiowa Engineering is currently preparing plans for the final reach of the Lakewood Gulch project.

Lakewood Gulch is an urban stream draining much of Lakewood.  Lakewood Gulch is subject to severe flooding resulting in 100-year peak flows of 8000 cfs.  The design provided benefits to the community by improving flood carrying capacity, providing a recreational and commuter trail, enhancing urban wildlife habitat, and also increasing both safety and aesthetics in the gulch.
