Woodmen Road and Rangewood Drive 72-inch Culvert Rehabilitation

Woodmen Road and Rangewood Drive 72-inch Culvert Rehabilitation
City: Colorado Springs
Year: 2009
Project Description:

Kiowa Engineering prepared designs plans for the rehabilitation of an existing 72-inch corrugated metal culvert that crosses beneath Woodmen Road, a major arterial roadway in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Due to the depth of the existing culvert and the need to maintain traffic on Woodmen Road, Kiowa investigated several rehabilitation techniques as an alternative to replacing the culvert.

A 54-inch smooth steel liner was selected as the best option to rehabilitate the culvert.  The culvert remained in operation to convey drainage design and only one lane of traffic was affected by the installation.  The project included the design of a precast junction structure and the reconnection of the roadway drainage system to the new liner.  Total project cost to reline the culvert for a length of 175 feet was $170,000.
