Anderson Park Improvements
Kiowa Engineering designed improvements to the 28-acre Anderson Park in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The civil site improvements included replacement of two parking lots, enhanced crosswalks, a plaza entrance to one of the buildings to be renovated, upgrading the existing storm sewer system, a bioretention facility to provide water quality treatment, new park paths and a formal creek access along Clear Creek.
The creek access consisted of a meandering crusher fines path and sandstone steps to direct the public from the existing Clear Creek Trail to the north bank of Clear Creek. The north bank at the access point was lined with grouted 2-foot to 3-foot stepped boulders that surrounded a void-filled riprap pad. Riprap toe protection was provided along the toe of slope that extended 5-feet below the creek bottom per Mile High Flood District criteria.
Kiowa was retained by the City to provide construction management services and periodic construction monitoring
