Broadmoor Hotel Complex (Various Projects)
Kiowa Engineering has prepared numerous civil design plans for the Broadmoor Hotel since 2003. Projects for the Broadmoor Hotel include site civil design for the Exhibit Hall (Broadmoor Hall) and parking structure, an overall Master Drainage Development Plan for the overall campus, improvements to the Golf Course with a new bridge and sedimentation basin, roadway improvements to First and Elm and First and Holly, the Broadmoor Brownstones Phase II, renovations to Broadmoor South and design of the Retail Gardens, the Broadmoor Mountain Golf Course utility services, the Broadmoor Golf and Maintenance Facility, Broadmoor Cottages, renovations to the Entrance of Broadmoor West, renovations to the Golden Bee, Cloud Camp located on the top of Cheyenne Mountain, the Pikes Peak Hillclimb Museum, the Fly Fishing School located on the gorgeous Broadmoor East Golf Course, the Broadmoor Fishing Camp located between Lake George and Tarryall Reservoir, restoration and improvements to Seven Falls after the devastating floods of 2013, 1859 Restaurant at Seven Falls, Broadmoor Soaring Adventure, improvements to a culvert on Fountain Creek adjacent to the COG Railway Maintenance Facility, and the new Exhibit Hall expansion to the Broadmoor Events Center.
The design of the new Exhibit Hall expansion included demolition of the existing site facilities, relocation of utilities, storm drainage system relocation, grading and erosion control design, new utility design, site storm sewer design including a renovation of the existing detention basin facility, design of plazas and drop-off areas along with the streetscape and street design for Lake Circle.
In September of 2013, devastating floods occurred along the Front Range of Colorado. South Cheyenne Creek and the canyon that contains the Seven Falls tourist attraction was hit very hard. Federal funds for flood mitigation work were made available through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and managed by El Paso County. Ownership of Seven Falls was sold to the Broadmoor Hotel during our design work. In response to the emergency funding request by the Owner of Seven Falls, Kiowa Engineering completed an exigent flood mitigation design for South Cheyenne Creek from the Seven Falls entrance gate to the falls. The design and construction was completed in conformance with NRCS exigent flood mitigation guidelines. The mitigation design included numerous rock vanes in combination with bank lining to stabilize the banks and invert of the creek and enhance the fish habitat. The design allowed for field fitting of the vanes. The mitigation work was completed by Tezak Heavy Equipment. The mitigation work has survived several heavy flooding events since the installation in the summer of 2014.
