Fountain Creek Letter of Map Revision for Gateway Center Filing 1
Kiowa Engineering completed a revision of the FEMA floodplain to allow for a planned development on the bank of Fountain Creek south of Colorado Springs. The revision included over one mile of Fountain Creek including a major roadway bridge and channel improvements that were not reflected in the original FEMA study. The use of recent LiDAR topographic mapping in the study area eliminated the need for an extensive and costly ground survey. The existing FEMA hydraulic model was updated to more accurately reflect the 100-year floodplain and remove the property from the floodplain. Kiowa was able to successfully complete the FEMA technical review process and attain approval for the revision. Coordination was required with the local floodplain administrator and nearby jurisdictions.
